anyway its almost impossible for minecraft horror mods to even work in my opinion (unless its maps)

the whole entire reason youre even scared to play minecraft alone is because of the fear of the unknown

minecraft is not designed for anything demonic to come and get you which is why if something did it would be 10x scarier due to how unexpected it is

true horror comes from the absence of it

picture 2 scenarios

1 where you go into a game that you genuinely think is innocent and you end up getting jumpscared

and 2 where you go into a game knowing youre going to get jumpscared and you get jumpscared

which one is scarier

horror mods just take away the fear of the unknown because now you know somethings trying to scare you

the first scenario gets even scarier when your mind begins playing tricks on you due to how lonely it is - which is exactly what vanilla singleplayer does to you, and then the horror starts to actually happen. youre still consciously doubting it but your brain cant help but mess with you on top of actually getting scared eventually which also completely warps your perception on what youre actually playing

it would also have after effects due to that, example being not wanting to play said game again due to the paranoia of what you just experienced whereas if you simply downloaded a horror mod hoping to get scared you can always just not use it again and play regularly

overall if you want to really get scared on minecraft, have someone download a horror mod without your knowledge of it since then its paired up with the fear of the unknown and the unpreparedness that comes with it, that on top of smth ACTUALLY happening and proving your survival instincts correct is brutal

cave ambience is scarier

and no this doesnt apply to actual horror games because theres still a huge unknown element to them if you go into it blind

im also not saying that the horror mods cant be scary, they can, im just saying theyre not nearly as scary as they could be

speaking of dads i was making dad jokes next to my (actually) fatherless friend and i forgot they didnt have a dad and i felt so bad
